Bronx Science Consortium to Hold Symposium

The Bronx Zoo will be a locus of inquiry on Sept. 25 when members of the Bronx Science Consortium show off their latest research projects at the group’s first-ever poster symposium.

The symposium, which is open to the public, will feature 33 presentations about research being conducted by high school, undergraduate, and graduate-level researchers from all of the consortium’s partner institutions. Fordham will be represented in 23 of them, either individually or through collaborations.

Attendees will hail from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Fordham University, Montefiore Hospital, the New York Botanical Garden, Wildlife Conservation Society/ Bronx Zoo, and will present projects in fields as varied as biology, biomedical Science, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics, and psychology.

The consortium was formed in May 2012 with the goal of expanding research and education collaborations between north central Bronx organizations with deep ties to the borough. It is tasked with conducting research that is interdisciplinary, utilizing the talents and input of faculty members, biologists, chemists, mathematicians, patients, clinicians, and others from each of the partner institutions.
