Irish writer Hugo Hamilton grew up near Dublin. But as a Fordham audience learned on Feb. 7, his family existed at the intersection of two imaginary worlds.

The first world was his German mother’s memory of her homeland. The second was a dream of Ireland held by his nationalist father, who strove to eliminate English influence in Irish life.

Can science operate under great stress?

If the results of Soviet prison camps are any indication, it sure can—and with great success. But that doesn’t mean this science under duress came without a cost, one of Fordham’s top historians said on Feb. 4.

Asif Siddiqi, Ph.D., associate professor of history, discussed the Soviet prison science system in his keynote speech at the 19th annual Arts and Sciences Faculty Day.

Task Force to
Bolster Research Enterprise

The Office of the Provost is reaching out to faculty members and administrators for ways to help strengthen the University’s faculty research and doctoral-level programs.

The Task Force on Research Competitiveness held a series of fora in January to solicit ideas from faculty members and administrators. The task force has been asked to develop recommendations for enhancing research programs and using University resources more effectively.
