Fordham to Honor Ecumenical Patriarch

Fordham University will present an honorary degree to His All Holiness, Bartholomew, Archbishop of Constantinople, New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch, in a ceremony on Oct. 27.

The Ecumenical Patriarch, the 270th successor of the 2,000-year-old Christian Church founded by St. Andrew, will receive a doctorate of laws, honoris causa, at a ceremony to be held at the University Church on Fordham’s Rose Hill campus.

Successful Alumni Promote Fordham

While a student at Fordham University, Gerald C. Crotty, FCRH ’73, president of Weichert Enterprise, LLC, started out in biology, moved to English and ended up becoming a lawyer and chief counsel for Gov. Mario Cuomo.

Today, Crotty and other distinguished alumni bring their life experience and style back to the University as members of Fordham’s President’s Council, a group of 80 talented and successful alumni whose allegiance to and love of Fordham has forged a lasting bond between themselves and their alma mater.

SNearly three years ago, a doctor from St. Barnabas Hospital came to the Department of Computer and Information Science at Fordham for help with a medical research question.

David Dayya, D.O., M.P.H., was curious about data mining, a set of techniques for plucking valuable information from the torrent of data routinely generated by computers everywhere. He had found no reports of anyone applying these tools to the causes of disease and disability.
