Feinberg Breaks Down TARP Intricacies

Kenneth R. Feinberg has mediated some extraordinarily tough disputes. He has been charged with determining the fair market value of the Zapruder film that captured John F. Kennedy’s assassination and has served as the special master of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund.

Feinberg’s most recent undertaking, he noted at Fordham Law, has been much more limited in scope than some past efforts, but still has generated intense interest. As the special master for executive compensation in the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), he occupies a unique position.

Everyone at Fordham has a role to play in helping students when the pressures of life threaten to overwhelm them.

That was the message of “Students in Crisis,” a panel discussion for faculty and staff members held on March 29 at the Rose Hill campus. The discussion offered practical ways to help students who are struggling with personal problems.

Curran Center Gets Boost From Dedicated Alumnus

The school at Fordham from which John Curran, Ph.D., (PHA ’66) received his degree closed more than 30 years ago, but that didn’t stop him from finding a home on campus.

The Francis and Ann Curran Center for American Catholic Studies, which was named in 2004 in honor of Curran’s parents, has long been a beneficiary of his generosity. Now, his latest gift will allow the center to continue the robust programming that makes it one of the premier locations for studying Catholicism in the United States.

Publishing Experts: Rewrite Those Dissertations

A panel of university publishing experts said that most academic dissertations are a long way from being considered publishable by book publishing industry standards.

Speaking on March 24 at “The Changing Landscape of Scholarly Publishing: Best Practices for Getting Your Book Published,” four panelists made explicit recommendations geared to help young faculty members and doctoral candidates navigate the shifting world of academic publishing.
