Irish President Imparts Sense of
History on Class of 2010

In an address that invoked the glories and tragedies of Irish history as well as persisting injustices of the modern world, Mary McAleese, president of Ireland, called upon the Fordham University Class of 2010 to make the world better in the manner of the founder of Fordham and other advocates for justice throughout the centuries.

She urged the students to be agents of change, citing the example of Archbishop John Hughes, himself an immigrant from Ireland who founded Fordham as part of his drive to serve the downtrodden.

Alumnus Sets Standard for Giving Consistency

Like clockwork, Fordham can count on George E. Doty, FCRH ’38, the man who has given more consistently than anyone in the University’s history.

Every year since 1957, Doty, a former chair of the Board of Trustees and managing partner of Goldman Sachs, has lent his support.

Students in ‘West Wing’ to Focus on
Domestic and Foreign Affairs

The West Wing will debut this fall at Fordham, but it has nothing to do with the popular television show that ended in 2006.

“The West Wing: Integrated Learning Community (ILC) for Ignatian Leadership and Civic Service” allows sophomores and juniors from Fordham College at Rose Hill (FCRH) and the College of Business Administration (CBA) to live in the west wing of O’Hare Hall. There, they will focus on political affairs, international relations and domestic policy through an enhanced lecture series, community service projects and special trips.

WFUV Annual Gala
Rocks Gotham

New York’s “rock and roots” radio station rocked Gotham on May 5.

WFUV (90.7 FM) raised roughly $500,000 at its third annual gala, a night filled with laughter, tears, a performance by Levon Helm and even a conga line.
