A Full Court Challenge Could Mean More Than a Million for Men’s Basketball

The men’s basketball program at Fordham could net more than $1 million over the next five years if a new “Full Court Challenge” fundraising effort is successful. Five Fordham alumni have pledged to match donations to the basketball program dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000 each year between 2005 and 2009. However, the match doesn’t kick in until annual fundraising goals between $175,000 and $275,000 are met.

If those goals are met and the full $50,000 match is received each year, the team will receive $1.3 million during the five-year challenge.

“The University has given the men’s basketball program strong support, and it’s exciting to see alumni making such a generous gift,” said Frank McLaughlin, executive director of athletics. “It sends a strong message, inside and outside the University, that Fordham is serious about building a powerful program.”

The money will support the team’s recruiting efforts, allowing coaches to travel nationally to recruit players who are a good academic and athletic fit for Fordham. A portion of the funds will be used to create an endowment.
