Spreading Holiday Cheer

The holiday spirit echoed through St. Paul the Apostle Church in Manhattan and the University Church on the Rose Hill campus as the combined Fordham University Choir and the Bronx Arts Ensemble performed during the annual “Christmas Festival of Lessons and Carols.”

Presidential politics were still very much on the minds of the nearly 400 people who crowded into Pope Auditorium one week after Election Day to hear a panel discussion on “Religion and the Future of Liberal Politics.” Panelists, including former U.S. Sen. Bob Kerrey (D-Neb.), agreed that for Democrats to gain traction and legitimacy with voters motivated by religious values, Democrats need to put forth their own values-based agenda built on issues including social justice, economic equality and tolerance.

Historic Reunion

Fordham professor George Demacopoulos, Ph.D., professor of theology, played a key role in closing the centuries-old schism between the Roman Catholic and Greek Orthodox Churches. Demacopoulos helped facilitate the return of treasured Greek Orthodox relics that disappeared from Constantinople when Christian Crusaders invaded the city in 1204.
