President’s Council Discusses
New Initiatives at Annual Kickoff

Members of the President’s Council, a select group of alumni and parents whose charge is to help establish Fordham as the premier Catholic university in the country, gathered in Manhattan on Nov. 13 to celebrate the third anniversary of the group.

The reception was held at the law firm of McDermott, Will & Emery and was hosted by the council’s chairman, Peter John Sacripanti (FCLS ’82), managing partner of the firm. The event drew 40 council members along with University administrators, including Joseph M. McShane, S.J., president of Fordham.

University Among the Nation’s Largest Fund-Raisers

The Chronicle of Philanthropy has listed Fordham University in its annual Philanthropy 400 for the first time, making it one of one of only 123 colleges and universities on the list of the largest fund-raisers in the country.

Calder Center Awarded NIH Grant to
Study Tick Pathogens

Fordham University’s Louis Calder Center Biological Field Station has been awarded a $388,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to study fungi that can kill the blacklegged tick, popularly known as the “deer tick,” one of the major transmitters of Lyme disease.

Mike Wallace Tells Students Television News a ‘Race to the Bottom’

Former 60 Minutes correspondent Mike Wallace, winner of some 20 Emmy Awards, decried the state of broadcast journalism during a speech at Fordham University on Nov. 6.

“What’s happened, as far as I’m concerned, is that it’s all tabloid and infotainment,” he told a gathering of students and faculty at the McGinley Center on the Rose Hill campus about news on television.
