Cheer Squad to Compete in National Championship

The Fordham cheerleading squad will compete in the 2007 College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla., on Saturday, Jan. 13.

The Fordham squad is one of 20 teams that will be vying for a spot in the finals of the All Girl Division I competition, which takes place Saturday afternoon. Fordham competed in the championship for the first time last year, finishing in 11th and besting Atlantic 10 rival Duquesne University among others. The finals are videotaped for broadcast on ESPN and standings are posted throughout the weekend at
The 22-member team has had strong performances in the past, including winning the Most Collegiate Award for the past three years at the Universal Cheerleaders Association collegiate camps in Connecticut and Pennsylvania.
