My thesis will explore the ways New York City's bicyclists used direct action to force a shift in the city's infrastructure for better environmental sustainability. I plan to examine the different approaches to urban bicycle advocacy that organizations in Boston and New York are currently taking, and ultimately attempt establish to the most effective means of increasing the accessibility and ease of urban bicycling.

My thesis will explore the link between mass transportation in cities and the impact it has on the surrounding neighborhoods. Using both my research and internship experience, I will seek to explain how mass transit can be used as a tool to decrease urban poverty, aid in the revitalization of urban space, and increase social harmony. Ultimately, I hope to show that urban life can be vastly improved by the continued development of urban mass transit.

The Trinity Financial Fellowship supports the academic research of two outstanding Urban Studies undergraduate majors at Fordham University as they complete their senior internship and thesis. The Fellowship is awarded to students proposing an internship and thesis that connects with the efforts of community groups to revitalize distressed areas in New York City.

Participants in the Trinity Financial Fellowship produce senior theses related to social and economic concerns, community and cultural initiatives, the built environment and environmental justice. The project culminates with student presentations at the Spring Undergraduate Research Symposium. The projects will be published in the Fordham Undergraduate Research Journal and on the Urban Studies website.

Eligible students must be entering their senior year. Application materials will be available in early 2015.
