Dr. Hakobyan received her Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. Her dissertation examined the efficacy of the US Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), a trade preference program that provides tariff exemptions to developing countries on their exports to the US. In addition to US trade policy toward developing countries, her current research focuses on the impact of trade liberalization on labor market outcomes. Prior to joining Fordham University, Dr. Hakobyan taught at Middlebury College and University of Virginia. She also holds an MA in Russian and Eurasian Studies from John Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and has worked on a number of projects at the World Bank.
